Electrification
The road to decarbonization starts with electrification. Batteries are essential to this but they’re difficult to use in the maritime world.
De-carbonize your operations, Islanded DC Grids and Energy Storage in moveable vessels operation
Stig Olav Sttemsdal talks about a novel approach for modernizing and retrofitting offshore power plants with islanded DC grids and battery energy storage.
The concept is currently being implemented by Siemens Energy on offshore rigs and can be fitted into any offshore and marine powerplant and comply with the redundancy intent of the plant, also dynamic positioned operated vessels.
The approach aims to support customers with necessary de-carbonization efforts of current operating fleet to meet future emissions regulations. The concept is already used in diesel electric power plants but can also be adapted to gas-turbine based power plants The essence of the concept is to enable low intrusion integration of energy storage solutions in any power plant configuration, being it 2, 3 or 4 section power plants.
About ONS
The biennial ONS event was started in 1974 as a key meeting place for the energy industry around the northern sea. Continuously developing, ONS today represents a series of activities around the world. During the ONS event, more than 65 000 visitors from around 100 countries gather in Stavanger, Norway.
