Fertinal, Mexico: Mobile substation as a service

Powering a 44-year-old substation in Mexico was no routine task. With a lack of maintenance, extreme weather, and a major earthquake in its history, the site was facing many challenges. The Fertinal-story began with a fire in the substation, followed by geopolitical shifts that disrupted global food supply chains and created the need to keep supporting the market with fertilizers in times of need. For this reason, Grupo Fertinal took the bold decision to invest in boosting the substation’s output and modernizing its power infrastructure. Siemens Energy deployed Mexico’s first 30 MVA mobile substation - ensuring reliable operations and launching our mobile substation as a service portfolio.

Siemens Energy introduced mobile substation as a service - a fast, flexible alternative to conventional replacement. The mobile unit was deployed and energized in record time, ensuring continuity and reducing environmental impact through SF₆ gas recycling and optimized resource use.

The project delivered tangible operational advantages that strengthened reliability and ensured seamless performance throughout the modernization.
