Energy realism: No empty promises

The energy transition is a complex transformation of every aspect of the energy system - including low- and zero-emission generation, grid infrastructure and energy efficiency in industrial processes.

Simply adding more generation capacity is not enough; the current grid infrastructure is outdated. By 2040, more than 80 million kilometers of electrical grid needing to be significantly expanded and upgraded to handle renewables and increased demand.

New lines help – but making existing grid infrastructure smarter and stronger is even more important. For example, with grid stabilization technologies, digital grid management, and selected equipment updates.

Gas is essential to meeting rising energy demand and enabling the energy transition - cutting CO₂ through coal replacement, providing flexible power to support renewables, and paving the way for low carbon hydrogen.

Fuel and infrastructure are the real limits. Some power plants already operate with H2 firing and co-firing. Siemens Energy turbines run on up to ~75% hydrogen today, with a clear pathway to 100% by 2030 and compatibility with other sustainable fuels.

Data Centers can be built both efficiently and sustainably, through optimized power generation, resilient grid integration, and reliable backup solutions. All of these combine to help reduce the strain placed on the Grid, and to ensure that Data Center operators can start their facilities as quickly as possible.

Industrial decarbonization is already happening at scale – projects ordered in 2025 alone will enable Siemens Energy industrial customers to avoid 37 million tons of CO₂ emissions over their lifetime.
