Siemens Energy to supply HL turbine to Associated Electric Cooperative for new peaking plant in Oklahoma, USA

Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. (AECI), a member‑owned, not‑for‑profit electric cooperative serving America’s Midwest region, has selected Siemens Energy’s SGT6‑9000HL gas turbine for its 420-megawatt Bristow Energy Center natural gas peaking power plant in Creek County, Oklahoma. The HL‑class turbine offers fast start‑up and on‑demand operation, supporting Associated in providing reliable power to its member-owners across rural Missouri, Oklahoma and Iowa to meet growing peak demand.

Quick ramping is a hallmark of the HL-class, achieving up to 85 MW/min and reaching full capacity in a world-record time. This performance is enabled by an optimized gas turbine design with a thermal management system and internal cooled rotor passages. This design allows for free thermal expansion during fast transients, enabling fast cold and hot starts. Alongside the SGT6‑9000HL turbine, Siemens Energy will supply an SGen6‑2000P generator and a dilution SCR system to comply with emissions regulations at Bristow Energy Center. Pending regulatory approvals and permitting, Associated expects construction to begin in 2027 with the unit commercially available in 2029.
